Catch Bodeans live at the Guthrie Theater on February 11th

Monday, February 11, 2013, 7:30 PM Wurtele Thrust  Twenty-six years after their T-Bone Burnett produced debut Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams led them to winning a Rolling Stone reader’s poll as Best New American Band, the BoDeans are still rocking and harmonizing gracefully, exposing longtime fans (and their kids) to real, heartfelt and trend-free music. Best know for their mid-90s Billboard hit anthem Closer to Free, which became the theme song for the "Party of Five" television show, the band is touring behind their 2012 album American Made. The album features a dozen songs that are laced through with strands of indigenous roots elements - Heartland hoedown folk (American, with guest Jake Owen spinning out the guitar solo), Celticrooted mountain music (Walk Through This World, Flyaway), zydeco (Everything You Wanted), Southern roadhouse soul (Don’t Bring Me Down), Chicago blues (Shake the Fever) and 100-proof roots rock (All the World). These tracks are played with heartfelt emotion as well as jaw-dropping skillfulness by the band - Neumann on vocals and guitars, original member Michael Ramos (Patty Griffin, John Mellencamp) on keyboards and accordion, longtime BoDeans bassist Ryan Bowman and new member Warren Hood, a fiddle/violin virtuoso from Austin. Cabaret now at the Bloomington Theatre and Art Center

Cabaret is now playing at the Bloomington Theatre and Art Center.  You can get tickets at the link below. 7:30 p.m. every Thu., Fri., Sat. until February 17  2:00 p.m. every Sun. until February 17  Bloomington Civic Theatre (https://www.centerstageticketing.com/sites/bloomington/) 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road Bloomington, MN 55431 Read the Star Tribune Review (https://www.startribune.com/entertainment/stageandarts/187786861.html) "There was a cabaret, and there was a master of ceremonies...” Life in 1920s Berlin, like many other parts of the world, was a time of excess and carefree living. Take your seat at the Kit Kat Klub, the perfectly marvelous cabaret.  Cabaret depicts the interlocking stories of a cabaret singer (Sally Bowles), a writer from America (Cliff Bradshaw), and the citizens of Berlin, all caught up in the swirling maelstrom of a changing society. As the Nazi party begins its rise to power in the 1930s, each character’s life is deeply affected and each must decide how to respond to the political events happening around them. Sally and Cliff must each decide if they will abandon themselves to the pleasures of the cabaret, or open their eyes and face the coming storm. Based on Christopher Isherwood’s Goodbye to Berlin, Cabaret is hard-edged, with a starkly real storyline. The images of Berlin and the ways in which it bows to the rise of the Nazi Party are powerful and disturbing, providing lessons for generations of theater-goers.  PLEASE NOTE: This program contains adult content.

Lucinda Williams coming to the Dakota

Americana singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams has the wonderfully evocative drawl and Flannery O'Connor Gothic inclinations of her Southern roots. But she's also got local ties up here, having married Minnesota native Tom Overby on stage at First Avenue in 2009, and in recent years settling into town for relatively extended residencies. This four-night stand at the Dakota begins less than a week after her 60th birthday, a couple of years after the release ofBlessed. She reportedly has written about 40 new songs for her next album for a still-to-be-decided label, having split from Lost Highway. She also recently recorded a new version of "Joy," a tune from 1998's Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, for West of Memphis: Voices of Justice, a compilation inspired by the documentary film about three teenagers erroneously convicted of murder. — By Rick Mason Price: $50-$60 Get all the details right here: 7:00 p.m. every Mon., Wed., Fri., Sat. from February 1 until February 6 @ Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant (https://www.dakotacooks.com) 1010 Nicollet Mall Minneapolis, MN 55403
