The Ice Castle at the Mall of America
For the first time ever the Mall of America is presenting The Ice Castle. With tours daily up until February 20th this is a must see attraction in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. And you should probably plan on your wife dragging you through Ikea while you are there as well ;) Unlike typical ice structures that are built with ice blocks, the Ice Castle is made of icicles organically grown from 4 million gallons of water and then fused together. The castle will join 50 large ice towers together to create a series of shimmering archways, tunnels, walls and caverns. In the center courtyard looms the largest frozen tower, reaching more than 30 feet high. Latticed icicles connect the icy columns to the tower, creating roomy caverns. Inside the Ice Castle, there will be several “Throne Rooms” with a chair large enough sit several people. At night, the castle will take on a magical look as thousands of LED multi-colored lights illuminate the ice from within. Expected Closing Date: Feb. 20 Hours Open: Mon. – Fri. noon to 10pm Sat. 11am- 10pm Sun. noon to 7pm Ticket Prices: Adult (13 years and older) – $10 Child (3 to 12 years old) – $5 You can get more information on the Mall of America website (https://www.mallofamerica.com/events/feature/ice-castles)

The Top New Years Resolutions
Welcome to 2013! It's that time of year where many of us make a resolution or two that we are going to try and stick to for the new year. What have have you promised yourself you will improve on this year? We have compiled a list of some of the top New Years resolutions. I bet one of yours is on this list. 1. Spend More Time with Family & Friends Recent polls conducted by General Nutrition Centers, Quicken, and others shows that more than 50% of Americans vow to appreciate loved ones and spend more time with family and friends this year. Make plans to meet up with friends for an evening of comaraderie at a favorite family friendly local restaurant (https://blogs.citypages.com/food/2010/07/top_5_kid-frien.php) or take the family to one of these popular Minneapolis/St. Paul places for family fun (https://minneapolis.about.com/od/lifestyles/tp/freethingstodo.htm) . 2. Fit in Fitness The evidence is in for fitness. Regular exercise has been associated with more health benefits than anything else known to man. Studies show that it reduces the risk of some cancers, increases longevity, helps achieve and maintain weight loss, enhances mood, lowers blood pressure, and even improves arthritis. In short, exercise keeps you healthy and makes you look and feel better. Why not make this the time to start getting in shape for one of these popular Minneapolis Charity Events (https://www.roadracerunner.com/Races/RunningCalendar.aspx?state=mn) ? 3. Get rid of that spare tire Over 66 percent of adult Americans are considered overweight or obese by recent studies (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/overwt.htm) , so it is not surprising to find that weight loss is one of the most popular New Year's resolutions. Setting reasonable goals and staying focused are the two most important factors in sticking with a weight loss program, and the key to success for those millions of Americans who made a New Year's commitment to shed extra pounds. The secrets to cooking that Christmas Turkey
Is it your first time having the family over for the big holiday dinner? Are you afraid to put that 20lb monster turkey in the oven for fear that you are going to overcook it and have it come out dry? We are here to take some of the mystery out of this process and get you to the table with a tasty piece of poultry. The video below that we found on YouTube goes over some of the basics that you need to know in terms of getting the turkey ready for the oven and how to monitor that it is cook to the perfect point of doneness. One note is that you do not have to use the stuffing they show you here. I would recommend that you do not stuff the bird at all. It will cook faster and more evenly. You still want to monitor the temperture and pull it our right when it says 165 degrees. Do not let it stay in longer than that or you will end up with that sad and dry turkey :( If you do want to have stuff make it in a seperate pan. One recipe that we highly recommend you try is this cornbread stuff from the Food Network website (https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/caramelized-onion-and-cornbread-stuffing-recipe3/index.html)
Dazzling Disney-like light show in Brainerd-Wadena
If you are in the Brainerd/Wadena area this holiday season make sure you take a trip to see this incredible Christmas Light display. GP Anderson's Christmas Light and Music Show in Wadena, Minnesota has been compared by viewers to a 'Disney' production. GP starts setting up the lights in October or November and says the task of setting up takes about the entire month, at least 400 hours, on average. The first show was in 2008 with subsequent yearly shows beginning the Friday after Thanksgiving. GP says,"When the lights are all on, I can easily draw 18,000 watts of power." The roof and Christmas star lights are C9's (lights with that wattage are needed to melt any snow that may fall and otherwise build up and obscure them). For the 2008 show, approximately 45,000 lights were used. In the 2011 show, over 100,000 lights were displayed and used. Over the years, the show and technology advances, and so does the number of lights and computer protocol. GP tells us "With the advent of 2012 ghost protocol for LED lights, advanced DMX programming and servo rebotics, the sky is the limit!" Each year the Anderson family collects donations from visitors for the show that go to the Wadena County Food Shelf. You can also watch the show and donate directly on the website athttps://christmasinwadena.com (https://www.youtube.com/redirect?q=http%3A%2F%2Fchristmasinwadena.com%2F&session_token=E1pcRkKeWKFJik9E46za4mIkHWh8MTM1NTk0NjA1MUAxMzU1ODU5NjUx) .
