An Evening with Joan Baez Folksinger/songwriter Joan Baez has been performing for over 53 years and has released over 30 albums. Known for her highly individual vocal style, she’s considered one of the most accomplished interpretive folk-singers of the 1960’s. Many of her songs are topical and deal with social issues. She initially gained recognition at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival and at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. She released her first album Joan Baez in 1960. Her second release, Joan Baez, Vol.2 went gold; as did Joan Baez in Concert, Part 1 (1962) and Joan Baez in Concert, Part 2(1963). Joan is best known for her hit Diamonds & Rustand her covers of Phil Ochs’s There But For Fortune and The Band’s The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. In 2007, she received the highly prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy’s. Some 50 years on, Joan Baez continues to show renewed vitality in both her recordings and concerts and remains a major musical force.
